How Intelligence Works is an independent, founder-led public-interest research initiative. It is being developed into the institutional structure needed to support research, partnerships, funding and long-term public benefit responsibly.
This page distinguishes what exists now from what is still being established.
Current status
What exists today
HIW has undertaken research, developed a manuscript submitted for publication, built a public platform, and developed a defined research, participation and partnership architecture.
It should not yet be understood as having a final legal or institutional form unless and until that status is formally established.

What is being established
The intended institutional model is public-interest and designed for scientific independence, multi-stakeholder stewardship, mission continuity and responsible growth.
Legal structure, formal governing bodies and permanent institutional arrangements will be established through the appropriate legal and professional processes.

Consortium & partnerships
The HIW Consortium is being developed as a collaborative network through which individuals and institutions can contribute questions, expertise, data, research capacity, pilot environments, technology, ethics and governance capacity, funding, dissemination or implementation capability.
Participation is not ownership. Organisations will only be described as formal partners or Consortium members when that relationship has actually been agreed.
Research, ethics & data
Research involving people, sensitive information or consequential applications requires appropriate consent, privacy, ethics, data governance, validation and professional safeguards. Developing frameworks and proposed tools should not be treated as validated instruments before the relevant evidence exists.
Funding & stewardship
HIW is seeking founding partners and support to develop the research programme and institutional capacity. Financial support does not create ownership of the mission or scientific results. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, contributions should not be assumed to be tax-deductible.
Transparency should grow with the institution.
As HIW develops, this page should continue to distinguish current status, formal decisions and future plans clearly.
